Commonly Asked Questions on Plates

There are a variety of plates used in orthodontic treatment, our most commonly used plate is called ‘Twin Blocks’. These are removable plates used to correct the lower jaw position.

The plastic blocks encourage the lower jaw to position itself forward. Over time, the bone and muscle adapts to the new ideal position. This plate can only be used during specific periods of a child’s or early teens growth cycle.

What else do teeth orthodontic plates correct?

There are other types of plates used to correct other conditions ie: an instanding front tooth, crowded upper teeth, or an upper front tooth that sticks out. These plates are used to achieve single tooth corrections and generally require full time wear. When worn well, they can be successful with simple tooth/teeth corrections.
