Specialist Orthodontist – Meet Dr. Chang

Dr Chang is one of Australia’s leading orthodontists. With a commitment to education and learning, Dr. Chang received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree with honours from Sydney University in 1999 and had a successful dental practice Canberra for 6 years. Dr. Chang then pursued his orthodontic training in Adelaide, where he received his Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics from the University of Adelaide, and was granted membership of the Royal Australasian college of Dental Surgeons and The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in the specialised field of orthodontics in 2008.

Dr. Chang established Smiles & Faces Orthodontics in 2010 with the core intent of creating
beautiful and healthy smiles within a caring, fun and supportive atmosphere. Dr. Chang is
passionate about transforming smiles and giving his patients the confidence of a straight and
healthy smile.

Dr. Chang has exclusive experience in the orthodontic treatment of both children and adults of all
ages. He has actively participated in ongoing, continuing education in all aspects of advanced orthodontics, including the latest techniques and technology of braces, clear aligners and hidden
braces. He also presents regularly to groups of local dentists to promote awareness in varying
areas of orthodontics. Dr. Chang is a member of several professional associations. These include
the Australian Society of Orthodontists, Australian Dental Association and the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He is fluent in both English and Mandarin languages.

At Smiles and Faces Orthodontics we respect the goals of our patients and aim to ensure we finish your treatment on time and help maintain your straight teeth. Our consultation process first starts with a conversation about you, and yourself. We are not aligned to any product or process so this is focused on you and your needs.
We are about informed choices, and understand the thought of having teeth removed can scare people. Dr Chang has special expertise towards fewer teeth removal techniques. We are transforming smiles, one
person, one smile at a time. This often means:

  1. For kids and early teens a focus on establishing their jaws in the right positions and preventing the late side effects that come from moderate to severely crowded teeth, which can be significant. This can often have better breathing & health benefits.
  2. For teens, considering one’s needs, remaining growth and health status of individual teeth in creating a plan to straighten your teeth using effective methods, and respects the presence or absence of wisdom teeth.
  3. Adults: maintaining teeth while enhancing or maintaining your face balance is our priority, using discreet braces or clear aligners solutions (ie: Invisalign® etc) and new technologies to help treatment finish on time or earlier.

Being an experienced practitioner and avid educator, Dr. Chang is a regular speaker in the dental community, improving awareness of what to look out for in kids and teens, importance and relevance of orthodontic treatment timing on outcomes and teaching dentists about clear aligners and other areas of orthodontics. He is a member of several professional organisations, including the Australian Society of Orthodontists, European Aligner Society, American Association of Orthodontists and the Australian Dental Association. Dr. Chang is a fluent speaker in both English and Mandarin. He enjoys networking with orthodontists around Australia and the world at
conferences and meetings, to bring the most effective techniques of teeth straightening with the above priorities of his practice in mind He also priorities the professional development of his team at Smiles and Faces Orthodontics and encourages education opportunities, networking events and ongoing training.

Outside of work and professional development, he is a family person, either at family events or at his children’s soccer, basketball and netball games.

As a parent of three children, he also understands the importance of teeth and gum health on one’s confidence, eating and speaking. Good teeth brushing and diet habits start young. To improve awareness among the general community, he created the Smiles & Faces Orthodontics podcast, giving great smiles with so much information available to learn.

Since the beginning he has been involved in several community projects including improving dental awareness in our local schools, Santa Visits at Mt Druitt Hospital, “Orthodontics From the Heart” and supporting disadvantaged youth in obtaining their new smiles.

Meet the Team

Hi! I am Pritee and I am the Practice Manager here at Smiles and Faces Orthodontics. I have been working here since 2017 having previously worked with a general dentist for two years.

I love helping our patients by providing the best interest free payment plan solutions that fits as many budgets as possible. Seeing patients smiles transform makes my job feel so much more rewarding. Since joining Dr Chang and the Smiles and Faces Orthodontics team I have found Orthodontics to be the most rewarding field in the dental industry. I now strongly believe and witness the importance of dental hygiene and facial harmony. Behind the scenes, I spend a lot of time on administrative support and organising training, coaching and education for all our team members to keep up to date with latest technology and techniques to improve our customer care.

Beside work life, I enjoy spending time with my family and especially my 4.5 year old daughter, travelling and I have a special interest in cultural dance and performances. I am also expecting my second baby at the end of 2019, so will be on maternity leave a few months, but cannot wait to be back with my team soon.

Hi! I am Helen and I am a Treatment Coordinator at Smiles and Faces Orthodontics.

I assist Dr. Chang with the consultations and ensure you feel comfortable with the treatment plans offered.I try to provide each patient with as much information as possible so you can make educated decisions. I am dedicated to outlining procedures to ensure the practice and your appointments run as smooth as possible, especially by limiting wait times.

My day is always made more special by our patients. I love hearing their stories and helping them on their way to a great smile.

Outside of the practice, I enjoys spending time with my family and making the most of my weekends being outdoors.

I’m Iza and I am one of the Oral Health Therapists here at Smiles and Faces Orthodontics. I have been a member of the team since 2013. I couldn’t be more proud to work alongside Dr. Chang to carry out orthodontic procedures and deliver the best service for our patients.

What I love about working at Smiles and Faces Orthodontics is being part of our patient’s journey, not just helping them to achieve straight teeth, but witnessing the change in their lives as they become more confident in showing their smiles. I love that we get to be a part of our patient’s lives as they share their stories and aspirations. It’s wonderful to know that they have chosen us to help them in their journey to a beautiful smile.

Outside of orthodontic adjustments and taking off braces and attachments (which I enjoy the most!), I spend my time going on food trips and travelling the world with my family and my adorable 4 year old son!

I’m expecting my 2nd baby so will be away for 2020, taking true for my young family.

I am Monica and I joined Smiles and Faces Orthodontics in March 2019 as an Oral Health Therapist. I am loving working with such professional team that truly care for their patients

I have a degree from Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga and have completed placements at Warrigal, Orange and Albury. Beyond cleanings, I am also qualified for fillings, extractions and a variety of other dental procedures.

The best part of my role is seeing amazing smiles transform, whilst working alongside Dr Chang for all stages of the treatment. I am devoted to my patients for their entire treatment journey and strive for the best results for them.

When not treating our wonderful patients I enjoy regular exercise and travelling with my family.

Hi! I’m Adriana and I’m one of the Dental Hygienists here at Smile and Faces Orthodontics.

I studied at Newcastle University of Australia, completing a Bachelor of Oral Health in 2009 with a strong focus on improving patient oral hygiene and extensive clinical training and experience in a range of specialised dental procedures.

As a Dental Hygienist at Smiles and Faces Orthodontics, you will see me working alongside Dr Chang assisting with your Orthodontic treatment. I will be assisting Dr Chang and the team during all stages of your orthodontic journey and, as a team, we will do all we can to ensure that your treatment and experience at Smiles and Faces is pleasant and comfortable.

Whilst our focus is always on achieving excellent state-of-the-art orthodontic treatment, the best part of our job at Smiles and Faces Orthodontics is seeing our patients transform at the same time as their smile does!

When I’m not assisting you during your treatment, I like to spend time with family at the beach, camping or anywhere outdoors.
